The Red Breasted Merganser is a diving duck of the sawbill family due to their long serrated bill.
It has a spiky crest.
They are 52 to 58cm in length
They have a wingspan of 70 to 86cm
They weigh in at 900 to 1350g.
There are 2,800 breeding pairs in the uk.
They eat small fish and aquatic insects , crustaceans, and frogs. They are amazingly fast and one was recorded at 100 miles per hour!
